Children, Teens & Youth Counselling in Whitby, ON
Support for kids and teens navigating big emotions, shutdown, and life’s challenges
For teens (and the parents trying to support them)
If you’re a teen, maybe you didn’t exactly choose to be here.
Maybe someone suggested therapy. Maybe you’re not sure what you’d even say.
Or maybe things have just been feeling… off, and you don’t really have the words for it.
You might be:
Giving one-word answers because it’s easier than explaining
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or shut down
Dealing with bullying or stress at school
Carrying something heavy, like grief or loss
Wondering why everything feels harder than it should
You don’t have to have it all figured out to start.
For parents
It can be hard to watch your child struggle, especially when they won’t (or can’t) open up.
Maybe they’ve become quieter, more withdrawn, or harder to reach. Maybe everything turns into conflict, or you feel shut out no matter how you try to connect.
You might be wondering:
“How do I help if they won’t talk to me?”
“Is this just a phase… or something more?”
You’re not alone in this — and neither are they.
What brings children and teens to therapy
Every young person is different, but some common reasons families reach out include:
Grief and loss
Bullying or challenges at school
Anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional shutdown
Difficulty expressing or understanding emotions
Changes in behaviour at home or school
Big life transitions or family changes
Sometimes kids and teens don’t have the words for what they’re feeling. And that’s okay therapy doesn’t start with having the “right” words.
A different way of working with kids and teens
At HS Therapy – Healing Space, we take a trauma-informed, body-based approach. Because not everything can be explained with words — especially for kids and teens.
We don’t expect you to come in and immediately open up. We don’t force conversations before you’re ready.
-

We focus on helping you feel...
More comfortable
Less overwhelmed
More understood — even if you’re not saying much yet
-

Sessions might include...
Talking (when it feels right)
Body-based and somatic awareness
Creative or low-pressure ways to express what’s going on
Tools to help you handle stress, emotions, and tough situations
We meet you where you are–not where anyone expects you to be.
Support for the whole family
When a child or teen is struggling, it affects everyone.
We often include parent support as part of the process — offering guidance, check-ins, or joint sessions when helpful.
This isn’t about blame.
It’s about helping everyone understand what’s going on — and how to move forward in a way that feels more connected and supportive.
Nothing is “wrong” with you (or your child)
Whether you’re a teen reading this, or a parent —
What you’re going through makes sense in the context of your experiences.
With the right support, things can start to shift:
It can feel easier to talk (even just a little)
Emotions can feel less overwhelming
You can feel more like yourself again
Relationships can start to feel less tense
Let’s take the next step
You don’t have to have all the answers before reaching out.
If you’re a parent, we’ll help guide you toward the right fit for your child.
If you’re a teen, we’ll meet you at your pace–no pressure.
